Having a strong relationship with your primary care provider (PCP) helps you better manage your health. Don’t have a PCP or thinking about switching providers? Here are four ways having the right PCP can benefit you.
Having a provider you trust makes it easier to share concerns before they become more serious. No problem is too embarrassing, and no question is too silly. Your PCP understands your health history and can provide care that’s right for you.
If you have ongoing health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma, your PCP is your go-to partner. They coordinate your care and bring together a team of specialists to make sure you get the right treatment.
Your primary care provider can also assist you with managing your medications. If you have chronic conditions and are taking several prescriptions, they can help you keep track and stick to your medication schedule.

Your PCP doesn’t just treat problems — they help prevent them. With regular checkups, screenings and a personalized care plan, your primary care provider can catch potential health concerns early when they’re often easier to treat. And they can help you avoid more serious issues down the line.
Your PCP cares about more than just your physical symptoms. They’re here to support your overall health and well-being, helping you thrive in every aspect of your life. This may include:
Mental health
Preventing falls
Lifestyle changes
Wellness goals
Make your health a priority with a yearly checkup. It's the perfect opportunity to talk with your doctor about your health, ask questions and make sure you're up to date on recommended screenings and vaccines.
Get free language services
You can request language assistance services at no added cost to you. If you need help communicating in your preferred language, please call the number on your member ID card and request an operator.
If you have chronic health conditions or ongoing health concerns, your PCP may want to see you more frequently. Talk with your provider to see how often you should come in.
The Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program offers additional support by helping you understand your medicines and keeping your treatment plan on track. If you qualify for the program, you’ll work with a pharmacist who reviews all your prescriptions. Think of them as your prescription partner — there to help you understand your prescriptions, answer questions and make sure you stay on track with your treatment plan.
The MTM program helps ensure your medications are safe, effective and easy to manage. The goal is to give you added confidence alongside the care you receive from your PCP. Learn more here.
You can also take advantage of mail-order delivery* (through CVS Caremark®) of select prescription medications, which may make things easier for you. You can order refills on your secure member website, and they’ll be shipped to you in about 7 to 14 days.
*You may continue to use CVS® pharmacies (retail, CVS Caremark® Mail Service Pharmacy, CVS Specialty® and Omnicare® long-term pharmacies) in the State of Arkansas, unless a court takes action on Arkansas laws that were scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026, have been enjoined by the court.
